The Istikhara Dua

"O Allah, I seek Your guidance through Your knowledge, and I seek ability through Your power, and ask You from Your great bounty…"
— Sahih al-Bukhari 1162

How to Pray Istikhara

  1. Perform wudu and pray two rak'ahs of voluntary prayer (other than the obligatory).
  2. After the salam, recite the Istikhara dua above, naming your specific matter where indicated.
  3. Make a sincere choice; trust whatever Allah eases for you, and observe how the matter unfolds.
  4. Repeat up to seven times if uncertainty remains, as taught by classical scholars.
